Building Project 6

Garden Room Extension Brightling

The Sussex village of Brightling is the home of this 18th century farmhouse, which has recently benefited from a bespoke garden room extension. Once again working with local architect Anthony Sherwin, his simple design enabled this building project to blend seamlessly into the fabric of the existing building.

We decided to use a reclaimed Sussex stock brick, which we laid in traditional lime mortar, with a snapped header detail, which is so prominent to this area. The roof was finished with Kent peg tiles and the external joinery was fabricated locally out of a sustainable hardwood, which was then finished with microporous paint.

Internally the existing oak flooring was re-laid in a herringbone pattern and then re-sanded and sealed, to give a new finish. Purpose-made softwood cabinetry was then installed to finish the interior.
